I start every morning and evening with coffee and God through daily devotions from Our Daily Bread Ministries, https://odb.org. “Affliction” is the title of today’s devotion. The scripture is from Job 1:13–22 with the key verse, “The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” Job 1:21. Kirsten Holmberg wrote this devotion. My beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, before I write, I pray first to God to guide my words, so that it may serve as spiritual food and guidance. I want God to be the sole source of my writing, so all the credit goes to Him, not to me. I am only his humble servant. I thank God that He led me to use Our Daily Bread Ministries as a base for comments. What I observe, the closer we are to Christmas, the more intense are the teachings about Christ. This devotion is centered the practice of gratitude periods of loss. Job knew the practice of gratitude, he acknowledges that God had given him everything he’d lost, and he still praised God. The practice of daily gratitude can’t erase the magnitude of pain we feel in seasons of loss, but recognizing God’s goodness to us in the smallest of ways prepares us to kneel in worship before our all-powerful God in the darkest hours of our earthly lives.
O God, You are the Giver of all good things. Help me to recognize Your generosity in even the smallest ways and to trust You in seasons of loss and hardship.e smallest ways.
May God bless you, and remember God's generosity even in the smallest ways.
