I start every morning with coffee and God through daily devotions from Our Daily Bread Ministries, https://odb.org. Today’s devotion is titled “Untying the Rope” The scripture is from Genesis 33:1–11 with the key verse, "But Esau ran to meet Jacob and embraced him; he threw his arms around his neck and kissed him. And they wept." Genesis 33:4. Amy Boucher Pye wrote this devotion. My beloved children, grandchildren, brothers, and sisters in Christ, all that I write, I pray first to God to guide my words, so that it may serve as spiritual food and guidance. I want God to be the sole source of my writing, so all the credit goes to Him, not to me. I am only his humble servant. I thank God that He led me to use Our Daily Bread Ministries as a base for comments . This lesson hits home. There are two parts to this story. I was bitter with my Dad for walking out on me. This bitterness for affected my relationships and how I treated others for years. When I found Jesus and accepted him as my Lord and Savior, I met my Dad. It had been over twenty years since I saw him. He cried and explained to me why he deserted us. He begged for my forgiveness. I forgave him and open a relationship with him and his family. I will never forget the years a had with my Dad and sister's family. My life has been enriched. I have people who I have wronged. I pray that God will bring them back in my life and give me the courage to face them and ask for forgiveness. Reflect: How do you think Esau felt to see Jacob bowing before him? Could you similarly humble yourself before someone you’ve wronged? Who do you need to release through forgiveness?
Prayer:
Father, give us forgiveness in our hearts for those who have wronged us. God bless you and give you the blessing of forgiveness.
