I start every morning with coffee and God through daily devotions from Our Daily Bread Ministries, https://odb.org. Today’s devotion is titled “Lincoln’s Pockets” The scripture is from Romans 15:1–6 with the key verse, " Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up", Romans 15:2. Mike Wittmer wrote this devotion. My beloved children, grandchildren, brothers, and sisters in Christ, all that I write, I pray first to God to guide my words, so that it may serve as spiritual food and guidance. I want God to be the sole source of my writing, so all the credit goes to Him, not to me. I am only his humble servant. I thank God that He led me to use Our Daily Bread Ministries as a base for comments. It is amazing how God’s way is opposite of the world’s way. In the world we are told to put ourselves first. God tells us to put others before our needs. Paul says, “Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up” Romans 15:2 NIV. If we all obeyed God’s command to “please our neighbors for their good, to build them up” (Romans 15:2), we’d be more like Jesus, who “did not please himself” but lived for others (Romans 15:3).
Reflect:
Whose kind actions most encouraged you? Who might need encouragement that you’ve been overlooking?
Prayer:
Loving God help me to encourage others with my words, actions, and presence.
May God bless you and help you to encourage others with your words, actions, and presence.
