I start every morning with coffee and God through daily devotions from Our Daily Bread Ministries, https://odb.org. Today’s devotion is titled “What Comes Next?” The scripture is from 2 Timothy 4:1–8 with the key verse, “There is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord . . . will award to me on that day.” 2 Timothy 4:8. Remi Oyedele wrote this devotion. My beloved children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, brothers, and sisters in Christ, all that I write, I pray first to God to guide my words, so that it may serve as spiritual food and guidance. I want God to be the sole source of my writing, so all the credit goes to Him, not to me. I am only his humble servant. I thank God that He led me to use Our Daily Bread Ministries as an inspiration for my comments.
I heard that many people know when they are departing and be in the presence of The Lord. I remember my grandmother talking about a train. I believe it was a train taking her to heaven, and she wanted our permission to leave us. Also, like our characters in Remi’s writing were not afraid, they were at peace and ready.
I know that when I am sure God is going to call me home to be with Him, I will be glad and rejoicing. May all of us “fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18).
Reflect:
What is your understanding of this life’s temporary nature? How do you think it plays into the life that comes next?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help us to keep our eyes on You and not on the troubles and trials of this life.
May God bless you and help keep your eyes on Him and not on the troubles and trials of this life.
