Truly Humble, Truly Great

I start every morning with coffee with God through daily devotions from Our Daily Bread. Today’s devotion is titled “Truly Humble, Truly Great.” Winn Collier wrote this devotion. The scripture reading is from Philippians 2:1–11 with the key verse, “[Christ Jesus] made himself nothing.”, Philippians 2:7. My beloved children, grandchildren, cousins, nephews, brothers, and sisters in Christ, all that I write, I first pray to God to guide my words so that it will serve as spiritual food and guidance. I desire God to be my sole source of wiring. All the credit goes to God, not me. I am his humble servant. I thank God that He led to use Our Daily Bread Ministries as my inspiration for comments.

Today the definition for greatness is self-centeredness, self-ambitious, and vain conceit. The temptation is very real. During the demonstrations, some people have yielded to this temptation by destroying property and stealing and posing as “protectors” of property.

The Apostle Paul urged us not to fall into the above mentioned trap. He encouraged us to follow Christ’s humble way. Christ is God, and He could force us to do His will and live as Him. Instead, He surrendered His power, became “a servant” and “humbled himself by becoming obedient to death. The One who held all power surrendered every bit of it for the sake of love.

If we need to put other’s needs above our needs, we imitate Christ.

Reflect:

How does the depth of Jesus’ humility surprise you? How does His humility force you to reconsider your definition of greatness?

Prayer:

Thank You, Jesus, that in Your most destitute and (seemingly) disgraceful moment, You demonstrated Your true power and greatness.

My Prayer for You:

May God bless and help you to imitate Christ as a humble servant.
