Returning to God

I start every day with God, reading daily devotions from Our Daily Bread. Today’s devotion is titled “Returning Home.” Winn Collier wrote this devotion. The scripture reading is from Zechariah 10:6–12 with the key verse, “In distant lands they will remember me . . . and they will return.” Zechariah 10:9.
My beloved children, grandchildren, cousins, nephews, brothers, and sisters in Christ; for all I write, I first pray to God to guide my words to serve as spiritual food and guidance. I desire God to be my sole source of writing. All the credit goes to God, not me. I am his humble servant. I thank God that He led to use Our Daily Bread Ministries as my inspiration for comments and to witness.
Before I became a Christian, I felt exiled, rejected, and abandoned because of bad decisions I made in life. I was far away from God, but I felt He was near and calling me to return to Him. I yearned to come home. I remembered how I told my mother that I was “putting on rudder” to turn myself around. Finally, I did turn around and returned home.
Your sense of exile may come because of our bad decisions or because of hardships beyond our control. Either way, God hasn’t forgotten you. He knows your desire and will call to you. If you answer, you will find yourselves returning to Him—returning home.
Reflect:
Where do you sense exile in your life? How are you hearing God calling you, showing you how to return home?
Prayer:
God, I feel far away from You. I know You’re near, but I feel so distant. Would You help me to hear Your call? Would You bring me home?
My Prayer for You:
God, we feel far away from You. We know You’re near, but we feel so distant. Will You help us to hear Your call? Will You bring us home?
